Iron Age, 800-43BC

In the UK the Celts started to use iron around 800 BC, having adopted it's use from the continent. Being a much stronger metal than bronze it was superior for making tools and weapons. Iron is forged rather than cast. The Celts in the UK also adopted the use of coins from about 200 BC, these were made from gold, silver or bronze, with coinage production mainly being by the tribes based in the south and east of Britain.
